CTS Pathway: Designing and Developing Clinical and Translational Research for Winter 2026 is intended for first year medical students pursuing the Clinical and Translational Science pathway. It introduces the fundamental concepts of designing and developing clinical and translational research projects.

Starting with the research cycle, the course will explore how to develop a research question, testable hypothesis and research plan. The course will examine how to determine a study population, measurements and controls. It will also look at various study types from the point of view of someone who is seeking to conduct research. The assignments are intended to serve as the basis of a project proposal that will be built upon in subsequent courses within the pathway. This project is intended to fulfill the Independent Investigative Inquiry (III) requirement under the Scholarship of Discovery track.
