CTS Pathway BIME 527: Disseminating & Advancing Clinical & Translational Research
BIME 527 is intended for second year medical students pursuing the Clinical and Translational Science pathway. It introduces the various means of disseminating research results to both the scientific community as well as to research subjects and the healthcare system. It also focuses on furthering research endeavors and research careers.
BIME 527 continues the project that was started in BIME 525, BIME 526, and the summer Triple I requirement.
The course will focus on written, poster, and oral presentation of the research project that the student conducted during the preceding summer quarter. This will result in an abstract suitable for submission to the Western Medical Research Conference (WMRC), a poster presentation at the UWSOM medical student research poster session, and an oral presentation suitable for WRMC. (Note that it is not required that students submit to, attend, or present at WMRC for successful completion of the course.)
Students will learn about the submission, review, and publication process for scientific research. They will learn the frameworks and methods to develop a dissemination and implementation plan to apply research results in the clinical setting. Students will learn about the grant process that is used to fund further research and training opportunities and gain experience in writing grant components.
